Do notions of what is normal and standard, accepted or non-accepted exist in music? The Borderline Festival is always at the outer edges. Give yourself over to the here and now of sound.
Do notions of what is normal and standard, accepted or non-accepted exist in music? And finally, how much do we really want to be surprised or to have our expectations upended through sound and the listening experience? When it comes to borders, what falls inside of them and what falls outside? And what is really the point of dividing lines between different music genres and artistic practices?
Recognizing the political dimensions of musical expression, Borderline Festival invites listeners to question established borderlines and give themselves over to the very present moment of sound. Noisy and low-key, gentle and aggressive, and above all disparate, this three-day festival focuses on synergies with artists and organizations traditionally beyond the Western Canon. More specifically, the upcoming version of Borderline was co-designed in collaboration with Space21, Kurdistan, and Irtijal Festival, Beirut, aiming to expand and strengthen the artistic network with Middle East and to promote a sustainable and decentralized touring model for artists.
