Introduction

The future of music has no limits. Day two of the festival seeks out future modes of correspondence between music and sound. Everyone, from the Wild Terrier Orchestra – a project by Dimitris Papadatos, aka Jay Glass Dubs, in partnership with ney player Foteini Korre – through to Oscar nominee Mica Levi’s CURL collective, calls on each and every one of us to move to our own pulse and discover a dance free of groove and rhythm.

Day two of the festival seeks out future modes of correlation between music and sound. From the Wild Terrier Orchestra – a project that sees Dimitris Papadatos, aka Jay Glass Dubs, partner with ney player Foteini Korre – to Oscar-nominated Mica Levi’s CURL collective, this night at the seaside Lipasmata arts venue invites each and every one of us to move body and mind to our own pulse, with a view to exploring a dance “free of clock, and groove, free of rhythm” (Thomas Köner).

Program

Wild Terrier Orchestra (Jay Glass Dubs w/ Foteini Korre)

Wild Terrier Orchestra is a project initiated during the first lockdown by Dimitris Papadatos, aka Jay Glass Dubs, and it's an open ensemble that consists of various collaborators that mostly work together online. For Borderline Festival 2021 Wild Terrier Orchestra will be Dimitris Papadatos on electronics and Foteini Korre on ney on a 30-minute performance that foreshadows their upcoming first official debut LP to be announced later in the year, drawing inspiration from musique concrète, traditional music, free jazz, and the poetry of Andreas Embirikos.

Thomas Köner

The music of Thomas Köner and his Porter Ricks project has often been described as deep immersive techno. In his live appearances, Köner creates a sense of immersion in a tangible and fluid auditory environment. As the artist himself notes, his music has to do with vibrations, the skin, and the sense of touch. You might say that Köner’s music is not heard by our ears but rather felt and sensed by our entire bodies.

CURL

Throughout the ten years since its launch, the Borderline Festival has shown its appreciation for, and drawn attention to the decisive influence that the avant garde, underground, and experimental scenes have historically had on more popular and established artforms. At the same time, it invites audiences to question the idea that success is an absolute notion, measurable in terms of sales and views, awards and collaborations.

Seen within this framework, the CURL collective can be characterized as a vital creative and experimental space for artists who, as individuals, have met with the most distinguished acclaim society has to offer, yet continue to identify with groups and movements still at the bleeding edge of acceptance.

This appearance by CURL and the Oscar-nominated Mica Levi comes ten years after the performance given by the now Oscar-winning Hildur Gudnadóttir at the first edition of the Borderline Festival, thus affirming the need to support a free and open space for experimentation and discovery.
