7th Athens Biennale ECLIPSE
In partnership with Onassis Culture
Dates
Location
AB7 opens an intercultural dialog on alternative ways of coexisting in the here and now. Between September 24 and November 28, 2021, at the downtown Athens’ historical center, in partnership with Onassis Culture.
An eclipse is a phenomenon of filtering and shrouding as well as a cosmic event. The experience of the eclipse functions as a catalyst for reprocessing an unresolved past that can inform an unspoken present and ultimately shape our future. Thus, Athens serves as the appropriate vantage point for contemplating the nuances of time and space; furthermore, examining the question if the West is in decline or in a moment of significant transformation?

You can predict the eclipse./ but you can do nothing about it./ so you observe it, you admire it, you use it as an astrological excuse for misunderstandings./ the eclipse is there to remind you that you cannot take the light for granted./ is there to reveal rather than hide./

“End Credits” by the Oscar-awarded director Steve McQueen is an installation paying tribute to the Afro-American singer, actor, and social activist Paul Robeson (1898-1976), who was blacklisted by the FBI during the 1950’s due to his struggle against racism.
