As of September 30th, Greece has been added to the rather short list of countries worldwide that have access to the state-of-the-art VECTRA WB360 system to tackle skin diseases and, mainly, skin cancer. The system, which has been entirely donated by the Onassis Foundation, was presented during a dedicated event which took place in the Hospital’s auditorium on the same day.

Advantages

  • This system, which can offer 3D imaging through 92 cameras that take snapshots, is the future of Dermatology and Skin Oncology, since it allows to monitor all the patient’s lesions at the same time, as well as their evolution over time.
  • One 3D capture covers nearly all of the patient's skin, saving photography time and improving patient comfort.
  • Ultra-high resolution 3D images reduce the number of close-up images required.
  • The Artificial Intelligence algorithms integrated into VECTRA WB360 allow for automated capture of all lesions on the patient's skin, offering at the same time the possibility to compare them in sequential images.
  • In practice, the 3D overview image, close-up photographs, searchable attributes, and medical notes provide the clinical history for each tagged lesion.
  • In its early applications, the system will be used in patients with melanoma history or increased risk to develop skin cancer (history of skin cancer, family history of melanoma, extended exposure to sunlight with multiple burns, etc.). At a later stage, it may also be used in healthy people for skin cancer prevention, as well as other dermatological patients, for follow-up purposes on a wide range of skin diseases, such as psoriasis, vitiligo, bullous dermatoses, burn management, etc.
