Maria Polydouri - Kostas Karyotakis: A Musical Correspondance
Hellenic Project: Contemporary Music and Poetry Cycle
For the first time, and for one night only, Maria Polydouri and Kostas Karyotakis' ill-starred love will become a concert. Experience a musical reading of the poetic texts exchanged by the two leading poets of the Twenties Generation, as viewed by the composers Chrysostomos Karantoniou and Kostas Makras.

A Musical Correspondence is a song cycle which presents in music, for the first time, the love which Maria Polydouri and Kostas Karyotakis exchanged in their poetry and there alone; a love which would nonetheless have a decisive and catalytic impact on both poets' art.
The composers Chrysostomos Karantoniou and Kostas Makras sketch portraits of these two key poets of Greece's Twenties generation and decode, in their own musical way, the profound erotic imprint Maria Polydouri and Kostas Karyotakis left behind, on a concert commissioned by the Hellenic Project, at the Upper Stage of Onassis Stegi, on 25th January,
A “Musical Correspondence” captures the two poets' emotions in a melodic reading of the ill-fated love that runs through their verses; a love exalted in high poetry which now provides the inspiration for Chrysostomos Karantoniou and Kostas Makras, as it has done for other important artists including Mikis Theodorakis, Nikos Mamagakis, Lena Platonos, Dimitris Papadimitriou and Giannis Spanos in the past.
Two young composers take on the challenge of setting the two poets' love poetry to music and entrust their songs in turn to two young and talented performers.
