Zad Moultaka is a composer and visual artist working in Beirut and Paris.

Born in Lebanon in 1967 to a family involved in contemporary theatre, Zad starts piano lessons at the age of five. In 1984, the war forces him to move to Paris where he resumes his musical studies and goes on to win two first prizes in the Paris Conservatoire, for piano and chamber music. In 1993 he gives up a very promising career as a soloist to devote himself to composition and painting.

With time, he becomes increasingly successful – commissions, recordings, invitations to seminars and conferences keep pouring in. In 2004, he puts together the Mezwej ensemble to explore the area between sheet music and improvisation. This will be his vehicle towards more expansive compositions and his first operas. While delving deeper in these directions, he also exhibits works in important galleries and museums and participates in The Venice Biennale in 2015 and 2017 representing Lebanon.
