Giannis Georgiou is a sociologist of gypsy origin. He holds a Master’s degree from the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens, where he is currently working on his doctoral thesis on the urbanization of Roma Gypsies from Asia Minor who came to Greece as refugees in 1922.
For years he was an expert and trainer in programs of the General Secretariat for Vocational Education concerning the social integration of Gypsies/Roma, and was a scientific collaborator of the Universities of Ioannina and Athens in programs for the integration of Gypsy and Roma children in schools.
His research interests include the study of the social history of European Gypsy groups through their continuous trajectory and settlement across modern Europe. He occasionally writes articles in the press on issues related to Gypsies/Roma.
