Tom Arthurs, born in 1980 in Northamptonshire, England, started playing trumpet at age 9. He graduated from City University with a degree in music. Thanks to his particular style of playing, he quickly made a name for himself in the London jazz scene—particularly after winning the Peter Whittingham Award, which is given to musicians under 26. As a member of the avant-garde F-IRE Collective, a broad community of artists founded by Barak Schmool in London in the 1990s, he has been associated with the group Timeline and with Robert Mitchell’s Panacea in the integrated presentation of music, language, and movement. He has lived in Berlin since 2008.
