Sylvain Lepoivre
For Sylvain Lepoivre, dance is primarily a family tradition. At the age of seven, he discovered hip-hop dance as a self-taught, through music videos. He was instantly drawn to the aesthetics of this dance and the values of this culture. He then received academic training in dance, within professional programs such as Anthony Egéa’s Compagnie Rêvolution and the Adage Training Center to broaden his potential. This later led him to join various companies, including Étienne Rochefort’s 1-Des-Si, Maxime Cozic’s Felinae, Riyad Fghani’s Pockemon Crew, associated with Alvaro Dule from the Opéra National de Lyon. He also collaborated with Les Twins at the Sziget Festival 2022, and ARTE Concert for the Pockemon Crew Company and the Opéra National de Lyon in 2023.
Consistent with his career as a dancer-performer, Sylvain Lepoivre aims to develop a resolutely hybrid choreographic style for Jenische Company, influenced by urban dance culture and academic dances. Free and seeking meaning, he showcases his universe in his first creation, “Drom.”
Lepoivre founded Jenische Company in 2023. It is based in the town of Toulon in the Var. Its name, Jenische (pronounced "Yéniche" in French), comes from an ethnic group of the traveler community, from which Sylvain Lepoivre’s family originates. It is this culture of freedom and the intoxication of emotions that inspired him to found the company.
Sylvain Lepoivre is accompanied by POLE-SUD and is an Onassis AiR Fellow for 2024/25, in the framework of Grand Luxe Network.
Onassis Stegi’s participation in the network is developed as part of its Outward Turn Program initiatives.
