Saeed Hani

Saeed Hani is a Syrian-German choreographer and director of Hani Dance-Movement Art in Luxembourg. Trained at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, Syria, Hani’s work crosses traditional boundaries and draws inspiration from objects, painting, photography, environmental music, visual art, and human stories.

Hani’s creations are multilayered and invite the audience to engage with it through their own experiences. He places dancers in specific environments and mindsets, transforming their movements into profound expressions of human experience. His themes include the mind, power, war, walls, and human psychology, with nudity playing an important role.

Hani sees nudity as a powerful connection to the essence of humanity, symbolizing strength, love, and authenticity. Coming from an Aramaic heritage that revered the body, he challenges the modern perception of shame associated with nudity and celebrates it as an act of liberation and self-expression, especially as a queer Syrian artist.

Through his work, Hani aims to stimulate the imagination and encourage self-reflection. His vision invites the audience to reflect on the complexity of human existence through powerful, sensual experiences.

Saeed Hani is accompanied by TROIS C-L, and he is an Onassis AiR Fellow for 2024/25 in the framework of Grand Luxe Network.

Onassis Stegi’s participation in the network is developed as part of its Outward Turn Program initiatives.
