Maria Koliopoulou

Maria Koliopoulou is an independent choreographer based in Athens. She is a founding member and artistic director of ‘Prosxima’ Dance Company, for which she choreographs and performs since 1996. She has presented works commissioned by the Onassis Stegi, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, and the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Algiers. Her choreographic works have been presented in Athens, Algiers, Vienna, Hague, Karlstadt, Ljubljana, Salzburg, Stockholm, Prague, Budapest, Chania, Serres, and Kavala. She is the recipient of the Jarmila Jeřábková award (2008) at the New Europe Festival in Prague and the 2nd prize at the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Algiers (2013). As a guest choreographer she has been invited by the Belgrade Dance Institute, Editta Brown Company, and Stopgap Dance Company. She has collaborated with the Onassis Stegi for the ‘Unlimited Access’ and ‘iDance: Dance without discriminations’ projects running workshops and choreographing for dancers with and without disabilities and is currently involved in the ‘Europe Beyond Access’ program.
