Louisa Karapidaki

Louisa Karapidaki was born in Heraklion, Crete, and graduated from the Pagkritio School.

She studied Art History and Archeology at the University of Humanities Sciences in Strasbourg and accomplished postgraduate studies (Master I, Master II) at the Sorbonne, Paris I. She worked as a curator and director at the Historical Museum of Crete. Since 1997, she has been working at the Hellenic Folklore Research Center of the Academy of Athens as the head of the museum collection.

She has designed and implemented a series of monothematic museums in Greece, such as the Bread Museum in Amfiklia, the Forest Museum in Prokopi, Evia, the Acritans of Europe Museum in Paleochora, Chania, Crete, the Folklore Museum of Sami in Kefalonia, and the Museum of the Marist Brothers and the Leonteio Lyceum in Athens. She has curated catalogs and exhibitions in museums in Greece, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Belgium, the UK, Morocco, Bulgaria, Hungary, and the USA.
She is a scientific collaborator of the MUCEM (Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée) in Marseille, France, and the Kresow Museum in Lubaczow, Poland.
She has designed and written a series of educational programs. Her educational book "Learning about oil and olives," published by the Academy of Athens, was honored with the Moskovis 2013 award.

She has participated in many European programs and international conferences, has published in scientific journals and international art catalogs, and has authored monographs.

She is President of the Museum of Cretan Ethnology and of the Museum of Greek Children's Art and a member of the Board of the Friends of the European Cultural Center of Delphi and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.
