Bio

Lisa Colette Bysheim (b. 1991) is a dancer and choreographer from Bergen, Norway. She works interchangeably with the materiality of language, choreography, movement, text, sound, scores, and meaning. She has an MA in Choreography from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo (2021).

In her work, she plays with humor to question, challenge, and reconstruct perceptions of power; with a particular focus on soft power as a concept of persuasion and seduction. A consistent interest in her artistic practice is to investigate how language and movement combined can allow multilinear narratives to unfold without submitting them to an internal hierarchy. Lisa wants to give attention to the way language enables us to articulate how differences underscore our lives by challenging ideas of center, hierarchy, and control.

Currently, Lisa is preparing for two premieres in 2024. Her work “Blue Carousel” will premiere in June at Dansens Hus Oslo with performances at BIT Teatergarasjen in collaboration with dancer Katrine Patry (CA/NO), and “If This I Then”, a durational choreographic and sound performance, will premiere in October 2024 at CODA International Dance Festival. She is also collaborating with artist Sophia Gatzkan (AT) and choreographer/dancer Max Wallmeier (DK/DE). As a dancer, she will be performing in new works by Fieldworks – Heine Avdal & Yukiko Shinozaki, and Janne-Camilla Lyster in 2024.

Lisa Colette Bysheim is an Onassis AiR Fellow for 2023/24 within the framework of the Transmissions project, that is supported by the EEA Grants and the Norwegian Financial Mechanisms 2014-2021.
