Kostas Karapanos
Kostas Karapanos was born in the city of Ioannina, Greece, in 1974, and has been playing the violin since the age of twelve. He holds a diploma in classical violin, while at the same time, he engaged with the traditional music of Greece, with an emphasis on the region of Epirus. He has collaborated with renowned virtuosos of Greek folk music, such as Grigoris Kapsalis, Petroloukas Chalkias, Yorgos Kotsinis, Alexandros Arkadopoulos, Antonis Kyritsis, Yannis Papakostas, Christos Zotos, among others.
Moreover, he has contributed to digital records featuring music from the region of Epirus, in collaboration with Grigoris Kapsalis, Thomas Chaligiannis, Yannis Papakostas, Yorgos Gouvas, and others.
From 1998 to 2006, he worked as a teacher of traditional violin at the Municipal Conservatory of Ioannina. From 2006 onwards, he teaches violin at the music school of the same city, and in the academic year 2022–2023, he taught a course on folk violin at the Department of Music Studies, University of Ioannina. Kostas Karapanos was a member of Dimitris Yfantis’s music group for three years and has played the violin in two of his albums, namely in “Krasomelia” and “Synodevontas.”
