José Luis Vidal
Born in Valdivia, Chile, José Luis Vidal studied sociology and anthropology before studying dance performing in 1994. With a scholarship from American Dance Festival he studied in New York in 1996. After he joined the Czech-Italian company DEJADONE and was assistant of Simona Sandroni in the Bratislava fine arts company in Czech Republic. Later, he worked with the Ernesto Company in Brussels, Belgium. In 1998 he joined the Transit Company in Barcelona, Spain.
On his return to Chile he co-creates “Dos pantalones grises”, directs “Roundtrip, Pichanga” and works in the choreographic design of the theatrical play “Ojos Rotos” and “Circulando” both directed by María Izquierdo.
Then he gets a master in choreography from the London Contemporary Dance School in the Kent University, UK. Since then, he has been an artist linked to The Place and obtained numerous residences and awards with “21 frames 21 minutes”, “Inventario”, “The Kiss” and “Loop”. Until 2011 he was an invited teacher for the London Contemporary Dance School and was part of the Hopscotch collective in London.
In 2010 he returns to Chile invited to inaugurate the GAM Cultural Center with the performance “Loop.3”. Since then he released “Tramas coreográficas”, “Inventario.4”, “Dosmildoce” and was an invited choreographer in the Chilean National Ballet releasing “Lo Impermanente”. He was also invited to the 6th Culture and Arts World Summit (IFFACA) that took place in Chile in January 2014, where he created the play Lat 33 with more than 60 performers from the company and the National Ballet. In 2013, he released “Rito de Primavera”, with more than 40 artists.
