Iro Vasalou

Iro Vasalou was born in Athens and graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School (The Place) in 2014. Since then, she lived and worked in Málaga, Spain, for four years as a freelance dancer, choreographer and dance instructor. In 2015, she founded the dance company La Fáctica Danza with Lula Amir (Uruguay).

She performed with the site-specific collective Villapuchero Factory, the dance company Ximena Carnevale and the composer and musician Paloma Peñarrubia Ruíz. With these and other solo works, she participated in festivals, such as Athens Video Dance Project in Athens, Nuevos Valores de la Danza in Málaga, MAF Málaga, Seasoning in Eindhoven, You better move in Amsterdam, Resolutions Festival in London, etc.

She recently completed a master’s degree in Dramaturgy at Utrecht University. As a dancer and choreographer, her interest focuses on interactive composition, the relationship of body and space and the dynamic of choreography as a means of political analysis and action.
