Ilias Chatzigeorgiou

Ilias Hatzigeorgiou was born and raised in Athens. He holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Ioannina and is a certified coach by the Association for Coaching and the National University of Athens. At the age of ten he started training as a self-taught hip-hop dancer and has since trained in many different dance genres. He has been a professional dancer and dance teacher for the last 20 years, and a member of the contemporary dance company Aerites since 2009. He has served as an instructor in several dance education programs, most recently collaborating with the Greek National Opera at the Special Youth Detention Center at Avlona. Through his many notable collaborations, both in Greece and internationally, Ilias has accumulated a wealth of dance and theatrical experience. He has collaborated as a performer or movement facilitator with Christos Papadopoulos, Patricia Apergi, Ioanna Portolou, Katerina Evaggelatou, Jerome Bel, Angela Brouskou, Argyris Pantazaras, Nana Nikolaou, Evi Souli, the Battery Dance Company, Hikaru Fudji, Sofia Exarchou, and many others. His artistic interests include bringing together different dance genres and using them to collect information in terms of movement, style, and performance in contemporary dance. Ilias has served as dance consultant for the Athens and Epidaurus Festival 2019-2022, and in recent years he has been trying his hand at creating dance performances. His previous choreographic work “Fixation in Duo” was presented at the Kalamata International Dance Festival 2020 and was streamed live for the Arc For Dance Festival 2021. “A Bounce 4 Men,” was produced by “Onassis Stegi” and presented on the main stage for the “Onassis New Choreographers 9” festival (2022).
