Giorgos Xylouris or “Psarogiorgis,” as everyone knows him at his birthplace Crete, is a case of a musician belonging to a fully vibrant tradition that traverses many lineages and continues to breathe and flourish.
Under the guidance of his father, Psarantonis, whom he accompanied for many years with his lute, he took his first steps and began shaping a distinct musical character over time.
During his 8-year tenure in Australia, he formed the band Xylouris Ensemble and recorded five records with them, while touring constantly in Australia and New Zealand. His first meeting with today close collaborator, Jim White, master drummer in the band Dirty Three, dates back to this period.
After his 8-year stay in Australia, he returned to Crete and the local music affairs, completing a series of collaborations with local artists, both through recordings and concerts. At the same time, he published a series of recordings with duets for lute with his uncle Yannis Xylouris, as well as Stelios Petrakis, a young and at the time rising composer and master of the lyre.
In 2013, together with Australian drummer Jim White, they formed the duet Xylouris White. As of today, they have released four long-play albums and have given concerts nearly all over the world, stirring enthusiasm among audiences.
For many years, he collaborated with Psarantonis, Yiannis Aggelakas, as well as other artists.
