Giorgos Katakouzinos

Giorgos Katakouzinos was born in 1943 in Alexandria, Egypt. After his filmmaking studies in Athens and Paris, he worked as an assistant director in several Greek productions, before creating his own films. In 1976 he made his first short film, “Nyhtes (Nights),” and in 1982 his first feature film, “Angel,” starring Michalis Maniatis and Dionysis Xanthos. The film, based on a true story, was commercially successful and sparked varied responses. Five years later, Katakouzinos presented his second film, “Apousies (Absences).” His third movie, “Zoe,” released in 1996, starring Georgia Apostolou and Vassilis Seimenis, was also inspired by a crime that shocked Greek society. Giorgos Katakouzinos died on August 13, 2013, at the age of 70.
