Giorgos Avgeropoulos
Giorgos Avgeropoulos is a prominent documentary filmmaker and journalist. A former war correspondent and frontline reporter, Avgeropoulos turned to documentary filmmaking in 2000, creating the documentary series “Exandas,” which was broadcast on Greek television for 13 consecutive years. He made numerous films in more than 50 countries around the world, on social inequality, poverty, human rights, the environment, minorities, migration, etc.
During the 10-year economic and social crisis in Greece, Avgeropoulos urgently turned his camera to his homeland, creating the “Agora” project. The two films of the project were described by international media as an “antidote to oblivion,” while Haus des Dokumentarfilms awarded AGORA the title “Film of the Year” in 2015.
Avgeropoulos’ work has been screened on television and in cinemas in various countries around the world and has been honored with more than 40 international awards, including FIPA d’ Argent (France), Rockie Award (Canada), Gold Hugo (Chicago), and Orpheus Award (Los Angeles).
