Georgia Tegou

Georgia Tegou is a London-based dancer and choreographer. She studied Dance at the Hellenic National School of Dance (KSOT) and at the Professional Dance School “Rallou Manou”. She attained a Master of Fine Arts in Choreography with Distinction from the University of Roehampton in London, where she still works as a lecturer, teaching choreographic composition, improvisation and contemporary dance technique.

She calls her choreographic approach dance-as-design and she creates dance performances that take place in visual environments. Influenced by architecture, sculpture and visual arts, she uses bodily motion to depict aspects of the human condition. The outcome is a blend of contemporary dance, visual physical theater and performance. Her work has been presented in Greece and abroad, supported by such organizations as Arts Council England, Dance Umbrella, The Place, The Old Truman Brewery, The Whitechapel Gallery, Royal Academy of Music, Architectural Association, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Art Night London, Six D.O.G.S. Gallery Space, Deda Derby and Architekturzentrum Wien.

In 2018, she was awarded an OneDanceUK Choreographers Observership and worked with Royal Opera House movement director Kate Flatt. In 2019, she received an Excellence in Teaching Award by the University of Roehampton. She is a visiting professor at the London Contemporary Dance School (Τhe Place) and leads professional dance classes at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Dance4 Nottingham, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, TripSpace projects, Chisenhale Dance Space, Dance East Centre for Advanced Training, East London Dance and Central School of Ballet.
