BIO

Evangelia Kolyra is a London-based Greek choreographer, performer, movement director and dance teacher interested in performance work which takes place within theatre spaces, site-specific, film and installation contexts. Her artistic practice is driven by an interest in the embodied nature of experience, the motional potential and function of the human body and its relation to socio-political and cultural factors. Her work aims to offer audiences a kinesthetically rich experience of the unexpected, humorous and sometimes dark or sinister sides to the psychology of human experience, presented within highly detailed and physically demanding choreography.

Evangelia’s work has been supported by UK organisations including The Place, Dance4, Citymoves, Arts Council England, Chelsea Theatre, Greenwich Dance, King’s College London, University of Roehampton, Dance City and Yorkshire Dance; also in Greece (Onassis Stegi), the Republic of Ireland (Dance Limerick) and Spain (Centro Danza Canal). Her productions have been featured in various platforms and festivals in Europe (England, Scotland, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Iceland).

As a performer she has worked amongst others with Marina Abramovic, Nicole Beutler, Willi Dorner, Simon Ellis, Deborah Hay, Rosemary Lee, Tino Sehgal and Matthias Sperling.

She has been establishing her choreographic language and signature style in the contemporary dance/performance field for the past nine years and wishes to develop her artistry further.
