Emma Camille Barreto is a self-taught entomologist and researcher of animal behavior and husbandry. Her practice has an ultimate goal of creating a framework for autodidactism in the natural sciences and documenting the diversity of microscopic communities that recycle the earth’s energy. Additionally, she explores animal communication and music through regular field trips in which she records high frequency insect sounds. Preferring a hands-on approach in her interaction with living entities, she nurtures an assemblage of eukaryotic organisms, a royal python, and around 200 insect and hexapod specimens throughout their life cycles. She is a former entomology technician at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in insect biology.
Emma Barreto is a participant of the Onassis AiR Extended Research Residencies program for 2024/25.
