Cyanne van den Houten (they/she) is a Dutch media artist and designer whose practice stems from the drive to uncover mysteries around the digital. In their work, they oppose the idea that the invisibility of technology is something to be feared, and instead embrace it, cherish it, and mold it into something tangible.

The computer is always in control of the outcome, so the way they work together with van den Houten is thoughtful, energetic, and intuitive.

As founder of art-meets-tech collective Telemagic, van den Houten creates manifestations, art interventions, and tools that focus on a closer human connection, such as concerts led by algorithms, rebuilt arcade machines predicting your digital future, and whispering games between generative AI systems.

Within their media lab .zip in Rotterdam, they collaborate with other artists and

makers on organizing hackathons and programs around digital, queer futures and alternative artforms. Their recent solo exhibition “Unstable Image” has been shown at Centraal Museum (Utrecht) and they are currently working on a new interactive exhibition for TETEM (Enschede), focused on the extractive nature of AI.

Cyanne van den Houten is a participant of the Onassis AiR/ONX Fellowships program for 2024/25.
