Constantine Skourlis is an independent composer and musician living in Athens, Greece. Skourlis’ musical output has been widely met with critical acclaim and is often described as “powerful” (‘Electronic Beats’), “majestic” (‘Boomkat’), “glorious” (‘Echoes and Dust’), and “haunting” (‘Headphone Commute’).
His highly acclaimed debut album “Hades” (2017) was released on Bedouin Records. The album’s thematic arc is a somber commentary on the human condition, a recurring theme in Skourlis’ work. During the recording of the album, Skourlis undertook sound-seeking journeys deep into the underground of remote island caves while storms raged above him, evoking the myths of gods and empires.
A momentous live performance of “Hades” at Berghain Säule (Berlin, 2017) established the breathtaking intensity and emotion that characterize Skourlis’ live shows and paved the way for a follow up performance at Berghain in 2018. “Hades” has since been presented at prestigious cultural institutions and venues across Europe, including the lnstitut Français de Grèce (2017), Bozar, Brussels (2018), and Onassis Stegi, Athens (2018).Skourlis’ second album “Eternal Recurrence,” inspired by the cyclical nature of catastrophe, was released in 2020 on Bedouin Records and was described as a “sonic atlas” by the influential online magazine ‘A Closer Listen’. The album was eventually included in a number of year-end best-of lists.
In 2020, he premiered “Splendidissima Gemma: Recomposing Hildegard,” a musical performance inspired by the work and personality of Hildegard of Bingen. The work was commissioned by Canto Soave ensemble and presented at two sold-out live concerts at Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall.In addition to his solo work, Skourlis finds creative fertile ground in ongoing collaborations with artists from other disciplines. These include Latent Community (visual artists and filmmakers Sotiris Tsiganos and Ionian Bisai), for whom he composed the music for the award-winning film “Otranto” (2019) and their upcoming film “Horses,” choreographer Dafin Antoniadou (“Vanishing Point,” “Dreams of Time”), award-winning choreographers Danae & Dionysios (“UNCIA,” “ATMA,” “Free at Last”), and director Efi Birba (“Don Quixote, Book 2, Chapter 23”).
He’s currently working on his new live AV performance "Dawn Eternal" in collaboration with renowned visual artist Theresa Baumgartner.
