Christina Athinodorou

Christina Athinodorou (b. 1981) is a composer increasingly rising into prominence, with a growing catalogue of symphonic, chamber and vocal works. Described as “atmospheric, strangely fascinating” and “substantial” by international press, her music has been performed at the Venice Biennale, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Grafenegg, and elsewhere, by the Tonkünstler Orchester, ONDIF, Ensemble Aleph, BlauerReiter, Sentieri Selvaggi, Athens State Orchestra, Pablo-Heras Casado and Pierre-André Valade among others.
Commissions include those by Radio France, Musik der Jahrhunderte, Pharos Arts Foundation etc. As a conductor she has led the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto, Nederlands Symfonieorkest and the London Sinfonietta amongst others.
Athinodorou studied composition with Julian Philips at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and later privately with Philippe Leroux in Paris. She also took courses at the UNT, CNSMD de Lyon, and IRCAM. Christina is based in Cyprus and works internationally, while maintaining her strong bonds with both the UK and France.
