Curator, dramaturg and artist

Over the last decade Alexander Roberts has emerged as a leading figure in the field of the contemporary performing arts – both in Iceland and internationally. Working as a curator, dramaturg, educator and artist – he has been co-Director of Reykjavík Dance Festival since 2014, Programme Director of the Performing Arts MFA at Iceland University of the Arts since 2016, and making work as an artist in collaboration with Ásrún Magnúsdóttir, Dance for Me and Katrín Gunnarsdóttir.

As a curator, dramaturg and artist, he has toured with his work across Europe, North America and beyond. Alexander’s work as a dramaturg and curator has led him to work with platforms including Black Box in Oslo, Avant Garden in Trondheim, Take Me Somewhere in Glasgow, Yeah Yeah Yeah in Zurich, Centrale Fies, Dro, Italy, Tanzfabrik, Berlin, Zodiak in Helsinki, and This Time Tomorrow Performing Arts Festival in Cincinnati, USA, among others. Notable examples of award winning and award nominated work that Alexander has worked on include DV’s Cultural Award for Dance for Church of Dancy, DV’s Audience Choice award for GRRRRRLS, nominations for DV’s Cultural Award for Dance for Reykjavík Dance Festival and Choreography Reykjavík, as well as Best Choreography for Crescendo and Shades of History winning Best Dancer at the National Theatre and Dance Awards of Iceland (Gríman).
