Open Call | Studiotopia: Artists invite scientists to their studios
We call upon scientists to join artists for a speculative journey to propose tentative solutions to global challenges in a collaborative, non-hierarchical residency.
STUDIOTOPIA is a creative journey that aims to increase collaborations between art & science and to raise awareness and foster creative and critical reflections about environmental challenges that our society is currently facing.
In the course of almost two years, STUDIOTOPIA will offer 13 artists and 13 scientists a unique opportunity to collaborate for a duration of seventeen months. Our residency programme aims to encourage scientists to exchange ideas, knowledge and methodologies with international visual artists while visiting their studios. Results, developed concepts, research material or artworks generated during STUDIOTOPIA residencies will be exhibited in partnering venues across Europe.
ARE YOU THE SCIENTIST WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
The residency program starts with a two-day matchmaking event in September 2020. All successful candidates will be invited to meet the artists and form working duos at the Ars Electronica Festival 9-13 September 2020 in Linz, Austria.
The STUDIOTOPIA residency takes place in artist's studio and is not a full time activity. Only around six physical meetings should be planned. Monthly remote meetings will be highly encouraged as to keep the conversations going.
Documentation of the collaborative art and science exchange are expected to be produced by the participants during the residence. The specific form of this documentation is open. The collaborative partners can prepare an idea of a proposal after their first meeting and with the support of the host institution.
The program runs until early 2022.
