Open Call | Music Connects the Onassis Stegi and the Panteion University 6

In the context of the series “Α Music Bridge over Syngrou Avenue”, organized for the sixth year, Onassis Stegi in collaboration with Panteion University invite soloists and chamber ensembles – up to four people – to submit proposals for concerts that will take place at the Auditorium of Panteion University in March 2021.

Submission deadline: 30.06.2020

The duration of the proposed concert programs can vary from 35 minutes (part of concert) to 60 minutes (entire concert, with or without break), and should be structured around a subject of the musicians’ choice. Each applicant can submit up to three different proposals. It is possible to have works with electronics, but not with video.

Each program should:

  • Consist of at least 4-5 works by different composers, composed after 1960, with emphasis on twenty-first century works; however, works of an older date are not excluded, if they are deemed necessary for the coherence of the proposal
  • Include works by women composers.

All combinations of instruments are accepted, bearing in mind the restrictions set by the size of the stage (8 meters width by 3 meters depth). Programs for concerts with solo instruments can also include collaborations with other musicians in some of the proposed works. Particularly favored are percussion ensembles (however avoiding extreme volume due to the acoustics of the room), string trios and string quartets, any combination of piano duet and piano trio, as well as ensembles that include traditional music instruments. As solo instruments particularly favored are the following: violin, viola, flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, but also instruments that are not part of the symphonic orchestra.

It is desired that the proposed programs:

  • Include a commission to a composer preferably residing in Greece, who will be available to work with musicians during rehearsals. In this case, the proposal should also include a text – up to 200 words – by the composer, describing his or her thoughts and intentions about the new work.
  • Include of works by Anestis Logothetis, honored in these concerts on the occasion of the 100-year anniversary of his birth (1921-1994).

The concerts mark the conclusion of an intensive workshop, aiming to familiarize students with contemporary music and to offer them experience about concert organizing. Musicians must be available to meet students in order to present the works of their concerts, as the students assume – in groups – the responsibility of the concerts’ communication and promotion, supported by the know-how and the communication network of Onassis Stegi.

  • Submitting a proposal does not guarantee its incorporation to the programming of Onassis Stegi.
  • Onassis Stegi is not required to justify the reason behind its decisions with regard to rejected proposals. It reserves the right to adjust selected program in collaboration with the musicians.
  • Submission deadline is 30 June.

Applicants will be informed about their submissions by July 31st.
