The legendary German filmmaker shared stories, thoughts and opinions with the master of live interviews, at Onassis Stegi Main Stage. Versatile, impossible to pigeon-hole and always artistically unorthodox, Werner Herzog had a live talk with Paul Holdengräber in Athens, about life, cinema and his own personal relationship to Greece.

“There is a great difference between ‘traveling on foot’ and ‘walking’. I am not a backpacker; they tend to carry their entire home on their back. This is not my way of experiencing a landscape and the world. When you travel with the absolute necessary, you have to come closer to people. You have to knock on their doors and ask for water. And that’s how you get to listen to their stories.”

Following on from the conversation the two of them had about ancient Greek literature three years ago at an event co-produced by the Onassis Foundation in New York, the next discussion with Paul Holdengräber, was every bit as unpredictable as the master's career itself. Werner Herzog has never stopped finding ways to breathe new life into the conversation around film.
