Onassis Collection and MoMus-Kostaki Collection works as inspiration for students
Part of Onassis Educational Program, "We Turn Works of Art Into Sound"
The Great Winner by Aggelos Papadimitriou
On occasion of the Onassis Educational Program "We Turn Works of Art Into Sound," students of Vocational Senior High Schools in Athens and Thessaloniki created musical compositions with the help of musicians and professionals of the arts, while inspired from the Onassis Collection and the MoMus-Kostaki Collection in Thessaloniki, as part of the European program Interfaces.
Since February, museum educators, visual artists and musicians/composers worked with students from the 2nd EPAL Agias Paraskevis, 1st EPAL Aigaleo, 1st EPAL Kalamarias and 1st EPAL Stavroupolis. The students visited the cultural centers twice, in order to explore contemporary artworks and then, through six sessions in their schools, composed their own unique musical pieces and presented them in an open celebration for all.
Their thoughts turned into art, they experimented with unique musical instruments, recorded on their smartphones and met intelligent software, while being inspired by two Onassis Collection artworks, «The Great Winner» by Aggelos Papadimitriou and "Untitled" by Apostolos Georgiou and "Costume design for "Salome"" by Ekster Alexandra (1917) and "Drinking Woman" by Nikritin Solomon (1927-1928) from the MoMus-Kostaki Collection. The program is part of the European Program "Interfaces" and co-funded by "Creative Europe" by the European Union.
