Cartel is presenting a different approach to the concept of filmed versions of theater performances with this Onassis Culture co-production.
Driven by a deep respect for the need audiences have for a theater experience – even an indirect one – in these unprecedented pandemic times, the visceral theatrical realism of Vassilis Bisbikis and his Cartel is now colliding with the conventions of filmmaking. The camera, guided by the cinematographer Dimitris Katsaitis, here becomes the audience’s eyes as they watch the heroes of our story up close, capturing the exact same feeling that held sway on stage at the Cartel Artspace. The story of Lenny and George, the heroes of the John Steinbeck masterpiece “Of Mice and Men” – called Lenos and Vassilis in the adaptation presented by Cartel – is coming to life digitally once more, for just two online screenings June, 2 & 6 in what promises to be a fully-rounded viewing experience, re-crafted using the language and aesthetics of film.
