Fat grooves, dreamy melodies, heavy riffs, and trippy guitar solos are sending us all back to the ’70s. Naxatras – a psychedelic rock band from Thessaloniki that’s constantly experimenting with psych, progressive, blues, funk, stoner, and oriental music – are heading to the Akontisma multi-purpose events hub in Kavala to make us dance until dawn. Melding their music with a psychedelic video show, Naxatras will be ringing in the new year – in Kavala and on the Onassis Channel on YouTube – as only they know how.

Naxatras quickly attracted the attention of Greek heavy and psych scene fans, drawn in by the heavy riffs, addictive fat grooves, and dreamy ’70s melodies that together make up the distinctive sound of the band, rightly considered one of the best exponents of the Greek psych rock scene.

From Greece, Naxatras have reached the globe, touring dozens of music stages across Europe to grace everyone at their gigs with a truly magical experience. Everyone that is who likes their rock turned right up to ten.

Ten years have passed since their first live sessions in Thessaloniki. Six since the major success they enjoyed with the release of their first album. Such was the surge of their creativity that their self-titled full-length debut was recorded in just one day. And such was their faith in the ’70s psych credo that they took an entirely analogue approach to the recording process. Their next recording ventures – albums “II” (2016) and “III” (2018) – were similarly analogue and even more high-powered, with the latter being presented live one epic night at Gagarin 205, leading to their live album “Live Rituals at Gagarin 205”.

Naxatras quickly established themselves as a rising force in the Greek rock scene, a fact borne out by their ever-growing popularity and their prodigious output (five official releases in the space of three years), as well as by their incredibly tight live gigs, which have drawn audiences in their thousands to some of Europe’s best and most major venues, and to their appearances at such landmark festivals as Desertfest in Berlin and London, the O.Z.O.R.A. Festival in Hungary, the Lake on Fire Festival in Austria, and Dunajam on Sardinia.

Unexpected locations. Unexpected collaborations. Unexpected stages.

STAGES A/LIVE

STAGES A/LIVE was launched to supported Greece’s indie music stages at a time when everything was shut. Stages are coming alive again, this time in some of Greece’s most unexpected locations. STAGES A/LIVE returns to places where important things have happened. We’re supporting the Greek music scene and its artists by creating a digital stage on the Onassis Foundation’s YouTube channel: yet another venue for bringing the local indie music scene to the world’s attention. STAGES A/LIVE second season is here, in ways most unexpected.

STAGES A/LIVE is being reborn – transformed into a completely different project. You can’t imagine what’s coming, so turn the volume up.

AKONTISMA

On the outskirts of the Nea Karvali seaside settlement, a few kilometers away from the city of Kavala, lies a secluded hill continuously inhabited since the depths of antiquity. Akontisma is continuing its history-making course with a new logo that encapsulates an unending, ternary, vectorial motion, aiming to with connect major traditions and relics of the past with contemporary trends in alternative cultural travels. The modern-day driving force behind this motion is the traction and energy generated by a partnership between the experienced and storied the association “Stegi Politismou” of Nea Karvali and a young group of people with a contemporary creative vision who sensed and were attracted to the intense energy emanating from this place from the very first moment.
