STAGES A/LIVE present Mikros Kleftis at WE

Digital premiere at Onassis Channel on YouTube: 09.05.21 at 23:00 (UTC+3)

On Sunday, May 9, at 23:00, Mikros Kleftis comes to STAGES A/LIVE, livening up the stage of WE at Thessaloniki. One of the most consistent and productive MCs of the Greek rap scene comes on the digital stage of the Onassis Channel on YouTube, to offer us a live show full of his improvisation skills and all the other things we love about him, filmed by Christos Sarris.

Being an MC means inspiring the audience by singing in your own unique way lyrics with an equally unique meaning. But being one of the greatest MCs for the majority of hip hop fans in Greece is something hard to achieve.

Mikros Kleftis (MK) is a veteran with more than 20 years behind the mic and a tremendous amount of sold out music shows, inspiring a whole generation of MCs to start their rap careers, while always being relevant and fresh. Widely recognized for his distinct rhyming patterns and his effortless freestyle skills that leave you speechless at his live shows, Mikros Kleftis is one of the pioneers to introduce hip hop to the North of the country.

He started his music career in Thessaloniki in 1999 and remains just as active to this day – and the popularity of each MK’s new release proves the point. He was a founding member of three legendary rap groups of his generation, Voreia Asteria, Anapoda Kapela and Alitoi Grifoi, with whom he released 8 full albums, while his solo discography already includes 8 widely acclaimed releases, the most recent of which being the 2018 album “Vasiliades tou Tipota” (Kings of Nothing).

For someone like Mikros Kleftis who, as he wrote, “rap saved my life”, at the end of the day it is not big talk that counts and takes you forward. What counts is to stay committed to what you have chosen to do, and do it on your own terms. Or, as they say, to keep it real.

STAGES A/LIVE

STAGES A/LIVE is a series of concerts without audiences but with lots of music, hosted by the Onassis Foundation YouTube Channel. An alternative digital world tour featuring our favorite bands and artists, and everything we’ve experienced with them at legendary past lives held at landmark venues such as Gagarin 205, AN Club, and other music stages in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Until we can all be together again at a live concert, music will be bringing us closer, even though we’re far apart, helping us to relive memories and concerts shared with thousands of people – both friends and strangers – via our screens. Greece’s indie music stages were created to support young artists, and have supported yet more audiences with bands once unknown that went on to become legends, in no small part thanks to their performances at historic concert venues. Fuzzy memories that today spark nostalgia, and a need for these stages to pull through – places where we feel safe and full of energy.

In this difficult time for people working in the arts, the Onassis Foundation is actively supporting these spaces that, due to the pandemic, are close to shutting their doors for good. Stages drained of artists, of technicians, of audiences – and of life.
WE

An old military warehouse in the city center, used to various ends over the years, has been converted into the WE concert space. This alternative urban multi-purpose venue, set inside one of Thessaloniki’s historic abandoned buildings, has to date hosted some of the most major artists active in the contemporary Greek rap, punk, and pop scenes. The WE multi-purpose venue opened its doors in early 2015 and, in just a few short months, managed to stake its place as one of the most important concert spaces in Thessaloniki. Hundreds of artists and groups have graced the WE stage. Anser, 12os Pithikos, Social Waste, Vevilos, Panx Romana, Pavlos Pavlidis, Giannis Aggelakas, Bloody Hawk, Warhaus, City of the Sun, Xατ Tρικ (Hat Trick), Vodka Juniors, Novel 729, Bad Movies, Psarantonis, Eisvoleas and others have all breathed life into this building on Tritis Septemvriou Avenue. Together with a new generation of artists, WE has managed to create countless memories in the minds of the city’s youth.
