Onassis Stegi at Kalamata International Dance Festival 2021
The Kalamata International Dance Festival is back and working once more with Onassis Stegi. Numerous Onassis Stegi productions have travelled the world – some via the Onassis Channel on YouTube, others live and in-person – and now six of these performances will be presented at one of Greece’s most important international dance festivals.

On Friday, July 16, we’ll be losing ourselves in dance at the Kalamata Dance Megaron thanks to four inclusive duets presented under the overarching title “Mixed Doubles” – pieces created by Faizah Grootens (“Cornered”), Venetsiana Kalampaliki (“Re-call”), Diego Tortelli (“Feeling Good”), and Roser López Espinosa (“Fine Lines”) as part of the Europe Beyond Access program. On Saturday, July 24 at the Kalamata Castle Amphitheater, RootlessRoot pay tribute to human existence and to memory with “Stones & Bones”, which was scheduled to have its world premiere at Onassis Stegi in April 2020. Postponed due to the pandemic and first presented on New Year’s Day 2021 on the Onassis Channel on YouTube, the production is now being presented before a live audience for the first time. On Sunday, July 25 at the Kalamata Dance Megaron, we are left hanging by Katerina Andreou’s “Zeppelin Bend”, in which the body is constantly suspended between hardcore discipline and the punishing search for pleasure. A work-in-progress version of this piece was presented at Onassis Stegi as part of the Onassis New Choreographers Festival 7 in February 2020. All these productions are being supported by Onassis Stegi’s “Outward Turn” Cultural Export Program.
The Kalamata International Dance Festival is strictly following all health and safety protocols set out by the Greek government, and taking specific preventative measures for combatting the pandemic at arts and cultural venues, as specified and constantly updated by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports.
