The Onassis Foundation in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens illuminate Vasilissis Sofias Avenue
In the context of the “Adopt Your City” initiative of the Municipality of Athens, 19 companies, institutions, bodies and associations will decorate and illuminate every corner of Athens.
This December, the Onassis Foundation participates in the festive decoration of the city center of Athens and undertakes to illuminate Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, from the Hilton Hotel to Syntagma Square. The Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis and the Municipality of Athens take up the illumination of Athens, in the city center but also in its broader neighborhoods. Squares, avenues, central and peripheral arterial roads, as well as shorter streets of Athens get illuminated with the assistance of private initiative, enabling the Municipality of Athens to illuminate with its own capacity and with the logistical infrastructure it already has at its disposal, a number of areas which have never or only partly been decorated with festive lighting before.
According to the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, “The collaboration with the 19 organizations that participate in the decoration of the city proves that the public and the private sector can co-operate, co-create, be the cornerstones of the changes the city needs. It is the philosophy and culture our municipality puts in practice. It is the strategy that envisages Athens free from fixations and prejudices. The city that collaborates, creates alliances and moves forward, changes.”
