Onassis Foundation at the Delphi Economic Forum VII
Onassis Foundation, following its long-term collaboration with the organization, was a Strategic Content Partner of the 7th Delphi Economic Forum presenting “New Realities” in the fields of Health, Culture, and Shipping.
The 7th edition of the Delphi Economic Forum was successfully held at its physical premises, after a two-year break when it was held either online or in a hybrid format. Between 6-9 of April, Delphi welcomed academics, politicians, entrepreneurs, and notable experts in order to meet contemporary challenges of an ever-changing world. Onassis Foundation was present for yet another year at the international forum, this time as a Strategic Content Partner, stirring up discussions on the important issues of ‘here and now’: the future of Greek Shipping, ‘risk-free’ investments in Arts, and the challenges of digital transformation in the field of Health. The main thematic pillars of this year’s edition of the forum were global security and economy, climate change, the future of EU, economic transformation brought by technology, and ‘recovery’ of Greece, its people and society.
ARTS: A RISK-FREE INVESTMENT
FRIDAY, 8 APRIL 2022
How can investment be defined and what really is its profit? Is it worth investing in the notion of enjoyment? Is there any relation between wellbeing and passion investments? And, ultimately, is art an elixir of youth?
Afroditi Pangiotakou, Director of Culture of the Onassis Foundation, had a conversation with Dakis Ioannou, businessman, art collector, and founder of the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, on investing in arts today, with the aim to prove that this is a no risk investment.
Quoting the American business magnate and investor Warren Buffett, Afroditi Panagiotakou explained that “risk comes from not knowing what you are doing. But in arts, you very well know what you are doing. And when you do what you love, you take no risk.” She further noted that “Onassis Foundation invests in culture not only aiming at broader-minded societies but motivated by enjoyment itself.” This is the driving force of the organization.
Dakis Ioannou claimed that “the real profit of art has to do with the way it makes one change personally,” while he also pointed to the difference between price and value, admitting that “for an art collector profit is an ambiguous and second-rate notion.”

NEW CHALLENGES FOR HEALTH AND TRANSPLANTATIONS: TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES AND BIG DATA
SATURDAY, 9 APRIL 2022
Anthony S. Papadimitriou, President of the Onassis Foundation, along with Ioannis N. Boletis, President of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, and other distinguished speakers from across the globe, highlighted the new challenges in the field of Health and Transplantations, focusing on the technology advances, innovation, and Big Data.
The potential and challenges of digital transformation are at stake ahead regarding Health. Anthony S. Papadimitriou spoke about the “National Plan for Solid Organ Donation and Transplantation” in Greece which, as he argued, has no chance of failing since it has united and has been accepted by all stakeholders, while it is also part of the initiative for the digital transformation of both the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center and the Onassis National Transplant Center, currently under construction.
For the very first time, the ‘transplant ecosystem’ can lead to better and faster decisions, through data automation and digital transformation.

THE FUTURE CHALLENGES FOR SHIPPING
FRIDAY, 8 APRIL 2022
This session of three-panel discussions on the future of Greek shipping was attended by the President of the Onassis Foundation, Anthony S. Papadimitriou, the Chairman of the Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance of Bayes Business School, City, University of London, Costas Grammenos, and the CEO of Olympic Shipping and Management S.A., George Karageorgiou.
The cargoes and bunkers of the future, as well as zero-carbon energy alternatives were presented during these panels, while also innovative strategic plans towards green energy were discussed, part of which is the digitization of Greek shipping.
By 2030-2040, the goal is to reduce emissions by 40%, a target that most of the speakers were optimistic about, due to the resilience and adaptability of Greek shipping over time.
