“Broadway,” Christos Massalas’s first feature film, received four awards in the categories of Make-up Design, Hair, and Special Effects, Costume Design, Set Design, as well as Original Music for the score by Oscar winner Gabriel Yared. The film that met the Greek audience last September and made a long festival tour at Europe’s major film festivals with important stops en route – the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and the Angers European First Film Festival “Premiere Plans” – proved from the Onassis Stegi Main Stage how successful a directorial debut can be in the world of cinema.
The Special Effects and Visual Effects Award was given to Panos Koutras’s latest film “Dodo,” featuring an endearing strange bird that invades the luxury residence of a family found on the brink between reason and madness and representing the frustration of an entire generation. The award was received by Thomas Duval, Fabien Guiliani, Antonis Kotzias, Irini Vianelli, and Michalis Neromyliotis.
The films “Broadway” and “Dodo” are two Onassis Culture co-productions crystallizing the vision of the Onassis Foundation to continuously invest in new talents and showcase strong narratives with an eye to the future of Greek cinema.
