Onassis Culture at the 47th Drama International Short Film Festival. All is Drama.

The Onassis Foundation is again attending the country’s grand cinema celebration, supporting independent Greek films.

Onassis Film Awards

Onassis Culture furthers its long-standing collaboration with the country’s most revered short film festival, strengthening the artistic production of young creators. Each year, it presents the Onassis Film Awards to filmmakers participating in the National Competition Program. Two awards were handed this year, each accompanied by a cash prize of 5,000 euros for developing the awarded filmmakers’ feature films.

The winning films are “Numb” by Despina Kourti, an all-embracing coming-of-age story structured around a simple pace and the orchestration of silence and gazes, and “Honeymoon” by Alki Papastathopoulos, a film bursting with vigor, sincerity, and compelling performances.

In addition to the Onassis Film Award, “Honeymoon” earned the Best Female Performance Award, the Drama Queer Award, and the Special Jury Award.

A premiere for the first “Big Short Film”
Onassis Culture embraces the process of creation, research, and artistic development. For the first time in 2023, it organized “Open Call: Big Short Films,” an open call to Greek and foreign filmmakers to submit their proposals for short films. The first Big Short Film to be completed is “MJ” by Giorgos Fourtounis, produced by Eleni Kossyfidou (Blackbird Production), a film that first encountered its audience at the 47th Drama International Short Film Festival. The film was warmly received by audience and critics alike and earned the Silver Dionysus—"Tonia Marketaki” Best Direction Award, the Best Male Performance Award, the “Ioulia Stavridou” Costume Award, the Set Design Award, and the Make-up and Hair Styling Award.
