Live from Mount Olympus Mythlet: “Part warp and part weft” just dropped!
Do you remember “Live from Mount Olympus” Season 5, when Athena taught Pandora how to weave? Now, the award-winning podcast returns on March 25 with an all-new mythlet: “Part warp and part weft”—a fascinating exploration of the incredible art of weaving in ancient Greece and how it connects us across generations.
“Live from Mount Olympus” Season 5 Pandora by Jason Adam Katzenstein
We embark on an adventure into the very fabric of Greek life, discovering how textiles shaped daily existence as women wove every piece of clothing for their families. The sound of looms filled Athenian households, where weaving was a vital part of the economy and society. Through their craft, women played a key role in sustaining their communities.
Weaving expert and Rutgers University professor Beth Clancy shows us how she and her family designed an ancient warp-weighted loom in her apartment in Upper Manhattan from a tree they cut down themselves bringing this exalted tradition to the present day. Beth describes the meditative process of weaving and the deep historical connection it fosters. This mythlet highlights how weaving is embedded into our everyday language, reminding us of our ancient bond with textiles. Even in today’s world of high-style fashion, history teaches us that clothing has always been a symbol of labor, artistry, and human ingenuity.
