From the Onassis Stegi Main Stage to the Onassis Channel on YouTube. A year after the world premier of ELENIT in Athens, Euripides Laskaridis returns with a unique short documentary diving deep down the world of ELENIT's backstage rehearsals.

"Here Not Here" was filmed at Onassis Stegi during the revival rehearsals of ELENIT a year after its Athens premiere, as the second lockdown prevented the restart of its international tour in Paris, where it was invited by the Théâtre de la Ville with the kind support of Fondation d’entreprise Hermès. Postponing the performances was a problem. "Here Not Here" was a creative solution.

In "Here Not Here" Laskaridis shares with us the preparation process of his team and his characters: a twenty-minute dive in ELENIT backstage and in rehearsals during the work’s revival. This elliptic backstage documentary had Eva Stefani as creative consultant, in collaboration with Pavlos Kosmidis, Emilia Milou, Fani Bitou, and Panagiotis Papafragkos.

Laskaridis has been described as “a tightrope walker who knows how to skillfully balance dream and imagination”; “a creator of an unfathomable yet familiar language, distant and moving”; “a charismatic artist who believes profoundly in the creative potential of spectators”. In this film, he talks about his process and the way he wants audiences to engage with what is happening here (the heart) instead of here (the mind).

Until we can abandon ourselves to the allure of a production that generously brings together and embraces humor and terror, let us enjoy this short film as a kind of haiku, filled with the power of an unforgettable production suspended between here and not here.

The short film will be available from 29th January at the Onassis Channel on YouTube.

“What is your problem?” is a leitmotif often encountered in the show. As many problems as we may have, this short film functions as a reminder of the importance and appeal of art to all of us, so crucial for social cohesion.
