Münchner Kammerspiele, among the most important organisations in the German-speaking context, has decided to project the full video recording of “Clean City” on its webpage, on May the 26th and for only 24 hours.
The Münchner Kammerspiele conceives itself as an aesthetically innovative, contemporary, and cosmopolitan municipal theatre with a socio-political focus. At the beginning of the season 2015/16, Matthias Lilienthal took over its artistic direction. Onassis Stegi has collaborated with the Münchner Kammerspiele in many occasions in the past and this production become the launch of a digital caollaboration. “Clean City”, written and directed by Anestis Azas and Prodromos Tsinikoris, has been one of the most significant cooperations between the two institutions.
“Clean City” was coproduced by Onassis Stegi and the Goethe-Institut of Europe, in the context of the joint project entitled EUROPOLY, that involved many artists and cultural organisations in Europe. More specifically, EUROPOLY has been a European project for theatre and film initiated by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with Münchner Kammerspiele, Onassis Stegi, Sirenos – Vilnius International Theatre Festival, Teatro Maria Matos Lisbon and Tiger Dublin Fringe.
“Clean City” premiered at the Onassis Stegi Upper Stage, in February 3-14, 2016, and immediately after it was scheduled at Kammer 2 stage of the Münchner Kammerspiele (February 17-18, 2016) as part of the Festival “EUROPOLY, PERFORMANCES AND FILMS EXPLORING EUROPE IN TIMES OF TRANSFORMATION”.
From that time-on the performance begun its successful tour all over Europe, and beyond, with the constant support of Onassis Stegi, with more than 35 cities in its calendar, during 4 consecutive years (2016-2019).
