Artist-in-Residence of the European Media Art Platform 2019 at Onassis Stegi in Athens

Andrej Boleslavský will develop his new project “3.711 m/s²” for two months in Athens, starting in May.

Gravity on Mars is equivalent to 3.711 m/s². As resources on our earth shrink and related issues build up, we look towards the sky for an escape plan and put our hopes in technological advances for salvation.

Stephen Hawking warned us that humans must leave Earth in 100 years from now. How will the new space age look like? Is it brave to conquer new planets, or cowardly to escape from our home? Are we really able to colonize new planets?

In “3.711 m/s²”, Andrej Boleslavský will use volumetric recordings and photogrammetry to create virtual environments and develop a cinematic VR experience of contemporary dance. A choreography created for another planet, creating movements that feel levitated, uninfluenced by gravity; a poetic vision of possible futures.

Andrej Boleslavský

Andrej Boleslavský (SK/CZ) is an award-winning digital artist looking at technology in the fields of new media art, virtual reality, light installations and physical computing. He maintains a strong fascination with the entanglement of nature and technology.

In his past works with digital artist Mária Júdová he explores the boundaries between physical and digital. He has developed numerous interactive installations and lectured on open source and creative coding tools. In addition, he is actively involved as a technologist for other artists and interaction designers.

Throughout the last few years, his collaborative works take inspiration from contemporary dance and digital technologies. By creating interactions between these two seemingly contradictory media, he aims to create confusing, yet artistically meaningful experiences.
