Announcement of Artistic Residencies | S+T+ARTS Regional Centers - Repairing the Present
Repairing the present while building the future we need.
21 projects aspiring to bring solutions to European and global issues and reimagine sustainable futures. “Peanut Pod and Film Seed Festival” and “Kyklosophy” are the projects supported by Onassis Stegi.
For a period of 6 months, 21 artists or artistic collectives will work on alternatives to existing unsustainable practices within our society and challenge established hierarchies.
Their projects reveal an imperative need to understand how our current modes of existence and the technological developments that accompany them undervalue or disregard the natural and non-human. They call for more harmonious ways to produce, manufacture, live, trade or explore space that consider the interdependence of our world.
Artists will have access to a network of local partners to develop artistic prototypes that use the power of aesthetics and art-thinking to innovate processes and practices so that they meet the demands of our future. Repairing the Present creates an opportunity for artists to step out of their usual role as visionaries to become not just the critical eyes that urge innovation to reflect on its implications on society but active contributors to the process.
The outcomes of the residencies will be presented in exhibitions at ZKM in Karlsruhe, MAXXI in Rome, MEET in Milan, and Ars Electronica in Linz in the autumn of 2022. Learn more about the artists and the projects proposed for their fellowships.

As part of the project Repairing the Present, Onassis Stegi will host two artist residencies that will explore the field of smart agriculture and circularity awareness within the educational system.HYPERCOMF is a multidisciplinary conceptual design artist identity, researching the relationship between nature and culture, domestication, industry, and science. Based on the local challenge "Smart Agriculture", HYPERCOMF answers how we can empower rural areas as role models of sustainability & prosperity through the use of technology, thanks to the “Peanut Pod and the Film Seed Festival” project.

"Peanut Pod and the Film Seed Festival” is a smart IoT agriculture pod that makes it possible for a farmer to produce the situation of Film Seed Festival, a peanut-crop-powered, open-field, eco film festival “Film Seed Festival”.
The fellows will work in close collaboration with residency partner AGENSO - Agricultural and Environmental Solutions, an innovative company for agriculture and the environment.
Unit Lab is the creative partnership of Cindy Strobach and Mike Vanis. Based in South London, they design objects, installations, and workshops that bridge science, art, and the natural world. On the local challenge “Virtuous Circles: Schools as Catalysts for Sustainable Neighborhoods”, Unit Lab gives solutions on how we might engage school communities with the practices of a circular economy both locally and globally by encouraging innovative design thinking through the use of advanced technologies, participatory creative research, storytelling, and contemporary artistic media.

Unit Lab will prototype an online platform where schools, teachers, and students in Greece can share their ideas, projects, and data about circular economy with each other. Schools will be given the tools to collect environmental data, students will be empowered to share their ideas and teachers will gain access to a wide range of resources to enrich their classes.
