This richly imagined audio drama is produced by the Onassis Foundation, co-produced by the Brooklyn theater ensemble The TEAM, and distributed by PRX. Peabody Award-winning showrunner Julie Burstein created the series, which is directed by Tony Award-winner Rachel Chavkin (“Lempika,” “Hadestown”), Zhailon Levingston (“Cats: The Jellicle Ball,” “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” “Chicken and Biscuits”), and Keenan Tyler Oliphant (“Hadestown,” “The Broken Ear Setlist”). Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner André De Shields is Hermes, host of this “GodsPod” filled with tales of monsters, gods, and heroes.
In Season 5
“Pandora” (2024), Zeus, king of the gods, commands Hephaestus to sculpt a beautiful woman out of clay, and orders each god to grant her a gift. Aphrodite bathes her in grace, Hermes gives her language, Athena bestows wisdom, and Zeus himself imbues her with insatiable curiosity. Her name—as you may have already guessed—is Pandora. You may think you know her story, but you’ve never heard it told this way before.
“Live from Mount Olympus” is presented by PRX.
Creators’ Notes
“The Greek myths offer an endless number of incredible stories about fabulous gods and mortals and their complex adventures that both entertain and educate young people and their families. Pandora is one of the most legendary female characters in history, and we have decided to give her a chance to tell her own version of this famous tale! Our audience will experience this story through a contemporary lens—which is the defining voice of each season of ‘Live from Mount Olympus.’”
-Karen Brooks Hopkins, Executive Producer
“As we explored the ancient texts and looked at the ancient art, it was a revelation to learn that Pandora’s origin story is carved into the base of Athena’s sculpture in the Parthenon—and it is quite different from the stories Hesiod tells. So, this season is all about how stories change depending on who tells them, and, as Pandora herself says, ‘No one else gets to tell the story that defines you. You get to sing your own story.’ What a pleasure to give Pandora back her voice for this new season of ‘Live from Mount Olympus’!”
-Julie Burstein, Creator & Showrunner
