Marine geoarchaeology research and seabed fluid flows

George Papatheodorou is Director of the Laboratory of Marine Geology and Physical Oceanography, which conducts marine geophysical and environmental research in the Aegean and the Ionian Archipelagos and in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Through the Laboratory, he participates in research projects for seabed fluid flows, submarine active seismic faults, and submarine landslides. Moreover, he focuses on the global issue of marine litter, which is another research field of the Laboratory, while recently he has been personally conducting marine geoarchaeological research in Lebanon, more specifically in the submerged Phoenician ports of Byblos, Sidon, and Tyros.

George Papatheodorou, Professor of Environmental and Geological Oceanography at the Department of Geology, University of Patras (UoP), was elected Dean of the School of Natural Sciences of UoP for a second consecutive term (2021-2024).

The global issue of marine litter is an important research field of the Laboratory.
