Dr Eva Litina

Dr. Eva Litina is an attorney-at-law admitted to the Athens and New York bars. She completed her PhD thesis in International Maritime Arbitration at the Department of Shipping, Trade, and Transport of the University of the Aegean in Greece where she also taught civil and commercial law, capital markets law, and law of electronic transactions. The subject of her thesis was arbitration, a method of resolving disputes, which is widely used in shipping. Her main research interests include international arbitration, mediation, maritime and commercial law, and energy law.She studied law at the University of Athens and received her Master of Laws from New York University School of Law (with a scholarship from Onassis Foundation). She has written articles, participated in international conferences, and has been granted scholarships and prizes for her research. Her monograph entitled “Theory, Law and Practice of Maritime Arbitration: The Case of International Contracts for the Carriage of Goods by Sea” was published with Kluwer Law International.

In the context of her work on diversity, since 2021, Eva Litina is Vice Chair of the Community Building, Networking & Scholarship Committee of Racial Equality for Arbitration Lawyers (REAL). She contributes to developing a successful strategy to broaden access in arbitration by collaborating with key institutions and supporting organizations to offer a variety of scholarships. Through these initiatives, scholars gain knowledge exchange, networking and writing opportunities. REAL has awarded more than 100 scholarships in one year for a variety of events, conferences and workshops on arbitration, mediation, and dispute resolution topics. Scholars come from diverse backgrounds, regions, countries, and universities.

Driven by her interest in diversity, Eva has written a book chapter on sustainable diversity in international arbitration, which will be published by Edward Elgar Publishing and an article on the participation of women in maritime arbitration.
