AKTES 2021-22 | Serifos island
Onassis AiR Collaboration
In 2021-22, ΑKTES program travels to Serifos island in collaboration with Onassis AiR and with the participation of Latent Community (Sotiris Tsiganos / Ionian Bisai).
In February 2022, Latent Community traveled to Serifos and worked together with the children of the island on issues of environmental awareness and protection with a focus on recycling. Over the course of one week, Ionian and Sotiris introduced the children to their artistic process and guided them through the techniques of filmmaking and production. Through a series of participatory workshops the children shared their favourite places on the island and provided images and sounds that became the basis of a film script. The outcome of this process is a short video co-created by Latent Community and students of different ages that presents the story and future of the island through the eyes of its children.
AKTES (Pocket Academy for Arts) is a socio-cultural project designed for small insular areas in order to support the participation of children in community life and development.
Each year the project travels to a different island and invites different artists for a series of short residencies during winter months. The goal is to use artistic experimentation as a tool in order for the children to collaborate with the artist and co-create an artistic work that is related to a strategic area of development of each island –for example tourism, culture, environment, etc.
The project was designed in 2019 by the non-profit organizations COMM’ON and Cultópiα. In 2020-21, AKTES traveled to Agios Eustratios and for the period 2021-22 the program took place in Serifos.
AKTES 2021-22 is implemented by COMM’ON with the support of Serifos Municipality and Zante Ferries. The program is funded by the Ministry of Culture and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism.
