Kool, Snowy Owl (Horizontal Blue) | Robert Wilson, Carl Maria von Weber & Peter Cerone

65-minute high-definition video portrait, 2006

The multi-award-winning international director, performer, sound and lighting designer, and video artist Robert Wilson presented a series of 43 video portraits at Onassis Stegi in 2013, works that synthesize the traditions of film, theater, painting and music, and manifest his research into contemporary means of conveying and perceiving images via screens of all kinds, which function today as ever-present “windows” onto other worlds.

These worlds, which unfurl themselves on endless loops, are inhabited by artists, animals, intellectuals, actors, and roles, and are characterized by colors of exceptional clarity and psychedelic intensity, long duration, suggestive texts, and distinctive music scores.

The artist himself said of the series: “It’s a document of our time. They are what I call portraits.” The works “Juliette Binoche”, “Isabella Rossellini”, and “Kool, Snowy Owl (Horizontal Blue)” reside in the permanent collection of the Onassis Foundation, and are exhibited here, in the Onassis Stegi bar, in constant, almost commonplace interaction with each of our visitors, exactly as the artist imagined these works functioning day to day.
