Geometry of Ideas II | Maria Papadimitriou
Plexi-glass & Led, 2018
The work “Geometry of Ideas II” by Maria Papadimitriou was created to form part of the “Geometries” exhibition hosted at the Agricultural University of Athens (2018, organized by Onassis Stegi, curated by locus athens), which aimed to reintroduce the public to one of the first university research centers focused on the earth and agriculture, presenting it as a timely landmark. The artist entered into dialogue with the unusual space that is the Agricultural Museum where, in among bygone models and tools for measuring and controlling nature, she placed an illuminated creation bearing the four-line poem “Fame is a Bee. (1788)” by Emily Dickinson. The geometry of thought, and the symmetry of cultivation and knowledge are elements shared by both this verse and its artistic transposition into the space of the university. Placed in the Onassis Stegi entrance, the work finds itself tested in a new dialogue with the nature of culture, in a new relationship with the boundlessness of human affairs and the function of renown.
